Central Control

A critical component of any remote office data protection strategy is the ability to monitor and control these operations from a central site.

The primary reason why backup and disaster recovery doesn't work in remote or branch offices is because these offices usually do not employ trained and experienced IT staff to setup, operate and maintain these crucial services. Relying on non-IT office staff to perform backup and restore operations has been shown to be highly ineffective in protecting the vital data assets that are created and stored in these offices.

Providing central control, through the FilesX Central Control Station, is a core aspect of the Xpress Restore Remote Office Data Protection solution strategy.

Central Control Station provides the following abilities to your central IT administrators:

  • Set and manage the backup and disaster recovery policies for each application at each office (data to be protected, frequency of protection, retention period, number of copies to maintain, etc.)
  • Monitor the status of operations, and receive alerts when an operation fails
  • Review reports of remote office data protection operations, in aggregate or on a per-office basis, and drill-down to troubleshoot failed operations
  • Selective levels of reporting to support the needs of operators, administrators or auditors
  • Provide local access to reports for remote users / office managers - for their office only
  • Manage disk usage in the remote and central repositories; provision additional capacity based on alerts; add, delete or migrate the repository
  • Monitor the health of each repository, and trigger remedial actions should problems be found
  • Perform local (remote office) recovery of: files, folders, volumes; e-mail messages, mailboxes, post offices; database tables or files; based on requests from remote users
  • Perform full Bare Metal Restore of a remote server to a new machine at the remote site, at the central site, or at a designated Disaster Recovery site
